| Bobo Stenson |
Scandinavia gave the world many great jazz pianists, just to mention Esbjörn Svensson or Tord Gustavsen. One of the greatest pianists of Scandinavia is also undoubtedly Bobo Stenson. For nearly 40 years he has been recording for the legendary ECM label, and has collaborated with the world’s greatest jazz musicians: Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, and Don Cherry. In the 1970s, together with Jan Garbarek, he was a member of an outstanding quartet, which brought Stenson recognition and prestige as one of the most interesting representatives of contemporary jazz pianism. Polish audience knows him well from the “Litany” by Tomasz Stańko, an album which entered the canon of European jazz. The style of Stenson is said to be a combination of McCoy Tyner’s melodiousness with the ambience and abstraction typical of the early works of Keith Jarrett. However, Bobo Stenson combines these elements into a unique whole, creating his own musical language. This, among other things, brought him the prestigious European Jazz Prize three years ago.
