The great legend of jazz, the greatest drummer of all time — these are the names for Jack DeJohnette, the musician whose amazing abilities blazed new paths for modern jazz. He has performed in the most iconic ensembles of the giants of jazz — Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Herbie Hancock and Jarrett Keith. DeJohnette’s playing style is considered unique. Usually highlighted are his amazing expressiveness, brilliant, virtuoso technique and innovative introduction of electronic instruments to jazz. DeJohnette is appreciated not only as a sideman, but also as a great leader and a composer, whose work is still as fresh and diverse as his musical past. The career of this master of drums, lasting for more than half a century, won him a countless number of records and awards — i.e., Jazz Masters Award, Jazz Legends Award and several dozen “Downbeat” magazine awards. This year, the musician celebrates his 70th birthday. He celebrates it performing with great musicians: an excellent individual, clarinetist and saxophonist Don Byron, guitarist Marvin Sewell, pianist George Colligan and guitarist Jerome Harris.
