The project is organized in cooperation with the American Film Festival

Bill Frisell is one of the most influential and innovative guitarists of his generation, and the winner of the Grammy Award. His art is characterized by lyrical nature, which is further enhanced by the experiments with electronic instruments, and by moving between the established genres. Into his work he incorporates the spirit of the whole American music — from Thelonious Monk, to Aaron Copland, to Bob Dylan and to Charles Ives. This one-of-a-kind musician, playing both the electric and the acoustic guitar, is also a successful composer. His music can be heard in several sound films, e.g. by Wim Wenders or Gus Van Sant, and in silent films, e.g. by Buster Keaton. In Wrocław, a film prepared by Bill Morrison, “The Great Flood”, will be played, for which Frisell composed the music. The artist and his ensemble will perform the music live during the screening. The film depicts the “Great Mississippi Flood”, which hit the Mississippi delta in 1927 and sparked the wave of the “Great Migration”. It resulted in the migration of Afro-Americans to northern United States. The main characters of the film are blues musicians who leave the disaster area and set off on a long journey — a journey that will forever change not only American society and culture, but also the music.
